FRAUEN IN BERLIN was supposed to be Chetna Vora's diploma film at the Academy of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Vora had come to the GDR on a scholarship from the Communist Party of India and filmed women talking about their lives with rare candor, in long and barely edited takes. However, because the director refused to cut the film down to 40 minutes, the working copy was confiscated by the university and eventually destroyed. Tobias Hering will present the only surviving VHS copy of the working copy - the material trace of an act of institutional violence that remains hard to understand today.
